Real Pathways Through Music, Media & Culture

Empowering Young People to Build Skills for Life

Industry-led music, media and digital training that builds confidence, employability and positive pathways — especially for young people who don’t thrive in traditional education.

ARTS AWARD – ACCREDITED PATHWAYS

Arts Award – Accredited Pathways

Urban Beat Academy delivers Arts Award-accredited learning pathways through our creative programmes, providing nationally recognised outcomes alongside meaningful personal development.

Arts Award supports young people to:

  • Build confidence through creative expression

  • Develop communication, teamwork, and leadership skills

  • Gain recognised accreditation that evidences progress and achievement

  • Re-engage with learning through practical, interest-led activity

Arts Award delivery can be integrated within alternative provision, in-school support, and targeted intervention programmes, offering flexible accreditation that meets young people where they are.

Experience

Our alternative provision is delivered by experienced creative practitioners with a strong background in alternative provision, youth work, and education.

We understand the complexity of learners who have experienced disrupted education, exclusion, or unmet need. Staff work consistently and calmly to establish trust, maintain clear boundaries, and create learning environments where young people feel safe, understood, and supported to re-engage.

Education

We provide structured, creative education for young people who are not currently thriving in mainstream settings.

Learning is delivered through creative, interest-led activity within a calm, structured, and supportive environment. Sessions are designed to rebuild motivation, confidence, communication skills, and engagement with learning, while supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour.

Provision is flexible, responsive, and aligned with individual needs and education plans

Certificate

Where appropriate, learners can work towards recognised outcomes, including Arts Award accreditation, providing clear evidence of progress, achievement, and personal development.

Accreditation is embedded naturally within creative activity and tailored to each young person’s readiness, ensuring success is achievable and meaningful. This supports schools and local authorities with robust evidence of engagement, progression, and impact.

Flexible, Individualised Delivery

Placements are designed around the needs of each young person and may include one-to-one or small-group delivery, personalised targets, and flexible timetabling. Our focus is on re-engagement, stability, and positive progression — whether that is reintegration, continued alternative provision, or next-step pathways.

Why Choose Us?

We specialise in in-school creative provision for pupils who are disengaged, at risk of exclusion, or not responding to traditional interventions.

Our work is structured, calm, and purposeful — using creativity to build trust, improve behaviour, and re-engage young people with learning.

Schools work with us because we understand the pressures they’re under, we respect school systems, and we deliver provision that actually makes a difference.

School-Ready, Safeguarding-Led

Our provision is designed to work inside schools. We align with safeguarding policies, behaviour plans, EHCPs, and reintegration goals — and communicate clearly with staff throughout. This is partnership, not drop-in provision.

Engagement That Leads to Change

Creativity is the hook, not the outcome. Behind every session is a focus on emotional regulation, communication, confidence, and positive behaviour — helping pupils re-engage with learning. Schools see calmer pupils and improved engagement.

Clear Progression, Real Outcomes

Our work isn’t a holding pattern. Where appropriate, pupils can progress into Arts Award pathways, mentoring, extended provision, or reintegration support — with clear evidence of engagement and impact.

“Before coming to Urban Beat Academy, I hadn’t had much experience with DJ equipment or structured creative sessions. At first, I was unsure of myself and didn’t really know where I’d fit. Taking part in the HAF projects has been something I really look forward to. Being in the studio, learning hands-on, and having time to focus on music has helped me feel more confident and comfortable trying new things. The sessions have helped me concentrate, enjoy learning, and see that I can build real skills with the right support.”

“I’d never done anything like this before and wasn’t sure what to expect at the start. The sessions helped me understand what was possible and gave me confidence to try something new. It would be really good to build on this and get some work or opportunities lined up as a result.”

Before coming to Urban Beat Academy, I hadn’t really seen myself in creative spaces like this. I didn’t know what to expect and wasn’t sure if it was for me. Getting hands-on with the equipment and being supported to try things properly changed how I saw my own abilities. The sessions helped me slow down, focus, and take pride in learning something new. Being in the studio gave me a different perspective on what I’m capable of and what I could work towards next. It’s made me think more seriously about developing my skills and using music as a positive direction.”

“The studio sessions gave me space to slow down and properly concentrate. Having access to the equipment and time to practice helped me understand how music actually works, rather than rushing through it. I’ve become more patient with myself and more confident in trying things without worrying about getting it wrong. It’s made me more motivated and clearer about what I want to keep developing.”
